About Camp Wellville

For almost 70 years, Camp Wellville has provided a place for friends and families to escape to a simpler life and foster the growth of the spirit, mind, and body. The camp was given to Rollstone Congregational Church (UCC) in Fitchburg by the Whittemore family in 1956. Since that time, the camp has steadily been developed through the efforts of members and friends of the parish. 12 rustic 1940’s-era cabins and 22 tent sites with water/electric are scattered along dirt roads that wind through the woods on 43 acres of private lakefront property. The facilities also include a playground, craft shed, hillside chapel, camp store, and ballfield.

An active summer program will keep campers of all ages busy. Nature hikes, book group, scripture discussions, Sunday evening vespers, fishing, swimming, boating and picnics are all part of camp life. Campfires are held most nights with special events for kids once a week. Swim lessons, and organized craft activities occur most weekday mornings.

Each cabin has three bedrooms and sleeps 6+. Wanaki, Sunshine, Linger Longer, Hate-to-Quit-It, have inside bathroom facilities. The others are either near to the central shower house or have their own porta-potties.

Winnekeag Lake is a 118-acre pond located in Ashburnham adjacent to Route 101. The shoreline is 75% developed with summer and year-round homes and camps. Aquatic vegetation is dense in the northern part of the pond and scant everywhere else. Winnekeag has four islands, one of which is privately inhabited. Non-motorized boats can be launched from the Camp Wellville waterfront. From the water, there are beautiful views of forest-covered mountains. Ashburnham State Forest and other surrounding woods for picnics and hiking.
